Default The Cost of Moving To Texas

I have carefully followed and documented the cost of moving to and loving in Texas. Here are my findings.

As a new resident, I was required to...

Register our cars in Texas.
Texas Auto inspection: $41.50 per vehicle
Total cost: $83.00

Texas Auto registration: $175.00 per vehicle
Total cost: $350.00 (includes $90.00 per vehicle new residence tax, total cost: $180.00)
Registration must be obtained at a county courthouse or courthouse annex.

Texas Driver License: $24.00 per license
Total cost: $48.00
Must be obtained at the office of the DMV, seperate location from registration.

Total auto Texas conversion cost: $457.00

Property Taxes in Montgomery County, Conroe Municipal District: $247 per month on less than $100,000, less than 1,100 sq. ft. remote subdivision (luckily, we rent).

Gas prices as of April 30th: $2.96/ gallon. All Texas stations converting to gas containing 10% ethanol by volume.

Liquor and beer: Texas liquor stores open only between 10AM and 9PM Monday through Saturday. Closed on Sunday. Grocery stores sell beer and wine from 7AM to Midnight Monday through Saturday, Noon through 12AM Sundays. Average cost of Molson Canadian in Texas: $7.49. Average cost of Molson Canadian in Oklahoma: $5.39.

Required account deposit by OG&E: $100.00
Required account deposit by Entergy: $275.00

I yearn for moving day. Too bad it won't be for a few years. I'll be sure and take my in-laws with me. They are orginally from Oklahoma as well.

What you didn't factor in your costs is the medicine you will have to take to control your blood pressure when surrounded by idiotic, slobbering UT fans. That's sure to cost a pretty penny!

Texas.....the new California. Cost of living has gone through the roof...property taxes, auto taxes, and inspections were a lot cheaper 8 yrs ago before this 5th generation Texan moved to OKC. Wife (2nd generation Okie) and I plan on staying right here in OKC and letting everyone else have Texifornia. If you have a decent job, Oklahoma is a lot cheaper place to live and the quality of life is better in a lot of ways.
