Re: 1 killed, 1 injured at Crossroads Mall
The solution is for Crossroads to take the short-term hit that private security commandos would cause. However, after a time of constant patrol by ultra-security forces (think Blackwater USA and like firms) and full-on intimidation of these gangs - they'll leave. May of these ultra-security firms exist to offer just these kinds of services to malls that are being run over by organized gang activity. The security personnel dress in all-black, none are under 6', they carry the heaviest weaponry allowed, they carry it in-the-open and work in great numbers. Yeah, it's an occupation. When even voices get loud from the thugs, they are there and intimidating as can be. They see gangs congregating and they intimidate by surrounding them as in "try something." They eject these thugs left and right over trivial things. It's all about intimidation. I saw a Dateline NBC ( or some such show) about malls deploying these commando-like security forces on a short-term basis and the success is phenomenal. Basically, it's Crossroads taking whatever action is necessary to reclaim their private property from the gangland thugs that are attempting to take over their property as a gang-infested hotspot. Interestingly, I remember "regular shoppers" and mall employees being interviewed for that story and saying they felt safer with the very in-your-face security. I wish they would give it a try. They will be forced out on the streets where the OCPD will have to deal with it. The great unspoken is that as long as the gangs are congregating on private property it's a monkey off their back. Law Enforcement wants a solution, but it's expensive, requires many man hours undercover and frankly they are overwhelmed. That's just the truth. By the way, a DA who is afraid of these thugs and their retaliation doesn't help. But that's another story.
