Can pretty much pinpoint my old house in The Village was snapped in September or October. In-Law's house in Tulsa was taken in December or January, shortly after the ice storm as debris is still present.

I've seen it on TV once or twice. They have a van with cameras on the roof that take pictures in all directions at once. Apparently, they drive down every street they can and take a picture every few feet or so.
I noticed, however, that the blue lines indicating where images are available stop at the gates of Gaillardia and Oak Tree. |

From what I have read Google had several people driving around with cameras mounted on the vehicles. Microsoft Street and Maps has a similar version but it isn't as detailed IMO. Kind of makes you wonder what the CIA has?

They have pictures of the inside of your house.

Very cool. And a little disturbing. lol
Looks like my street picture was taken last Fall: mums in planters on my front porch and the street trees that I lost in the ice storm are in place. |

Its totally freaking weird to be able to do that. Now I can see places I've never actually driven to before.
Think about it, you are going to meet someone somewhere and youre not sure what the place looks like. StreetView it and BAM, no you know exactlly where you are going! And IN YOUR FACE to getting in before Seattle. |

I live on a corner and the picture of my house looking north is from after the ice storm but before the leaves came out and the view looking west is from the fall ith orange leaves on the trees.

They took the picture of my house in the winter or early spring. It shows bare trees and brown grass. I wish they'd taken these pics after everything turned green. Everything looks better when trees and grass are green. I hate that it all looks so brown and ugly.

I was playing with this yesterday when I got the google alert for it. Kind of creepy. I wonder how long they had to wait to get shots if someone was outside or something. I don't believe they can have people out and about with them taking pictures. I do remember the car with the giant poll on top, I was driving behind it on the highway headed east on I-40. Then it got off on Sooner Road. Fun stuff.

Check out the OU campus/south oval. I managed to spot a professor I had for Freedom In Rome. Creepy! If anyone knows who Dr. Fears is - type in 718 Van Fleet Oval Norman, OK. The stick he was carrying gave it away!

I live in a gated communty in Jax that has 24 hour gate attendant and they got in. I think it is cool so it doesn't bother me in the least but I know some of my fellow resdents will be all freaked out.

Also, keep in mind they probably won't update these photos for several years.
Another cool feature... If you go to the downtown streets, you can pan up and see the top of even the tallest buildings. Pretty darn slick. |
