Default Sonic Drive-in?

Has anyone heard if the new Sonic Drive-in at 33 & I-35 is going to displace the one on S. Division or will they both stay open?

I heard both will stay open, but I don't know, they have wanted to move that one on division for a long time because it's in a flood area. This is what I heard>>>>Remember when the Train Depot issue first came up years ago, the one on Division, Sonic had purchased the property and was going to tear it down and build there, but the historical society had a fit and would not let him tear it down. Now look where it is, sitting empty with a new roof and a coat of paint.

The new sonic has nothing to do with the old one. Different owners he was a council meeting trying to get a sign where you could actually see it from the highway.

As some of you may know the new sonic is up and running, looks like the one on South Division is as packed as ever. I just hope it stays that way. I would hate for them to close it down.

Have you all noticed the Sonic at I-35 always seems to be empty?

Are there too many eating joints out there already?

The familiar face in Guthrie is getting a makeover. The Sonic Drive-In on 719 South Division Street is undergoing a remodeling effort that will give the location a fresh look and the employees a little more room to work.

“We’re excited about the project, we’re so cramped as it is,” Sonic managing partner Jane Ellis.

The Sonic remodeling project is a part of larger plan that will eventually retrofit all 32,000 locations in the U.S. and Mexico. The $150,000 project, which will be paid for by the franchise, includes the creation of additional 12 square feet of space inside the store, a new outdoor patio area, an updated exterior that features new colors and design, and a paved parking area behind the building.

“The menu has expanded and the older stores were not designed for the additional equipment,” Owner Joe Sutton said. Sonic public relations specialist Sarah Richardson said the construction would not affect the store hours. Construction crews will work primarily at night and only close segments of the building at a time. “People will not have to wait to get a Extra Long Chili Cheese Coney or Strawberry Limeade,” she said.

The work began early last week, and it is expected to be completed in three to four weeks, according to Ellis. She said the work has been delayed by the weather, which caused the location to close for much of Saturday.

“The rain put a dent in our schedule,” Ellis said. “It just looks like a big mud pit now, but they’re working hard on it.”

The location that opened in the early 1970’s underwent a remodeling project eight years ago.
