OMG! If you are looking for some good authentic New Orleans food, you better head on over to Cajun King. It is located at 5816 NW 63rd St east of MacArthur. I read what others wrote about it, and went to try it. Their chicken beats Eichens in my opinion. They bring out this Catfish Almondine served with tiger sauce to die for. I could go on and on, but you need to try it. It is buffet style so you will not leave hungry, and everything to the bread pudding is awesome. It may me think of grandma. Don't take my word for it, go and try it. OMG! I am so glad someone decided to do this for this city.

I tried the Cajun King today for lunch and it was excellent. Some of the best fried chicken and fried catfish I have had. I am not sure if I would say it was better than Eishens but close. I think it would depend on what mood you caught me in. The Cajun King has sugar or some type of sweetness in the crust which sets it apart from most other fried chicken I have had. The blackened pork chops were excellent. The red beans and rice and gumbo were good... not the best I have had but I enjoyed them. They had red beans or white beans to choose from to mix with your rice. I did not try the crawfish etoufe or the bread pudding.
The service was excellent as well and more than one member of either the owners or kitchen staff checked to see if I needed anything. I highly recommend this place if you enjoy Southern/Cajun food. Unfortunately I am not on that side of the city very often but I plan on putting it on my rotation when I can get over there. |

![]() You are ALL right on Point with CAJUN KING!!!! OMG I used to live just outside New Orleans, and traveled there with the wife for 15 years every spring to enjoy the culture and great food, and thus consider myself a true cajun food expert/critic. These guys have hit it out of the park!!! The etoufee was FULL of crawfish and crab. The roux that the Gumbo was based on was PERFECT! And I hardly got seated, when waitstaff placed a basket of HOT beinets sprinkled with powdered sugar and a plate of hot catfish with a side sauce that was heavenly. Sorry, I get carried away....The Blackened Porkchops were seasoned just right, and the collard greens were seasoned perfectly. And the wait staff would not let you take anything from the buffet but they were busy helping you or cleaning up after you. I am not a huge fan of pancakes or waffles, but my wife loves these guys blueberry and banana pancakes that they serve on Sundays. My lifestyle will not allow me to dine at the Cajun King often, but when I need a CAJUN KING feast, I'll be there!!! Keep up the great work guys, I have been waiting for a REAL Cajun chef in OKC for 20 years!!! Get the word out! |

I went to Cajun King Buffet this afternoon and really enjoyed it! I talked to the chef and he used to own a restaurant across the street from the Superdome in New Orleans. I have been to Southern Louisiana including Cajun country and New Orleans numerous times and this place is just as good as a lot of places there. It reminds me of a place you would find in Lafayette or in an old neighborhood like the Bywater in New Orleans.
It is is in an old Godfather's Pizza/Pancake house style building so it is nothing fancy. That is why it reminds me of something you would see in a neighborhood in New Orleans. I loved the gumbo, jambalaya, chicken (awesome), potatoes au gratin, and the mini beignets they bring to your table. I really hope this place is successful, it is the best take on Cajun soulfood I have tasted in Oklahoma City. Bigray in Ok |

I ate there last night and it was very good. The red beans and rice were as good as I have ever had. The fried chicken and catfish were very tasty. However, I think the bread pudding was as good as it gets.

Hey Becka, I grew up in Spencer and it is such a quite place. Now I live by the Cajun King and it's really good. The owner is a nice guy and seems to care about the quality of food and making his customers happy. Not having much Cajun food I am not an expert. So hop in you car and head west on 63rd. It would be worth the drive.

I ate there for lunch today. Red beans and rice was great. Cornbread was great. The fried chicken was about an 8.5, for comparison Eischens is a 9. Heck, even the iced tea was good. I didn't care for the catfish they brought out but it was me, both my dining companions loved it. I prefer a thin filet, this was a strip.
The service was outstanding. These folks take pride in their food and it shows. That's rare for any restuarant and unheard of for a buffet. Very solid 8/10. |

I went there for dinner to-go again tonight after work. LOL when I walked in the door I was greeted by the owner with a boisterous "There's my girl!" then he proceeded to tell all the new people there that I'm a regular. Euphoria is right when they say these folks take pride in their food and it shows. Whenever I go inside, I immediately feel at home. Everyone is just so nice! Doesn't hurt a bit that the food is great.

I need to try it as well. I live two blocks from it and did not even notice it was there. Warr Acres needs to fix up some of its properties though.

I must preface this by saying this is my first post. After eating at Cajun King I had to let everyone know how good this place was. The atmosphere could use some work but they more than make up for it with the quality of food. Having parents from the South (Mobile, AL) I was inundated with southern cooking at an early age. But onto the food. I sampled nearly every item on the buffet (little over $9). Jambalaya, crawfish etouffee, gumbo, blackened porkchops, blackened chicken pasta, fried chicken, potatoes au gratin, along with the catfish strips brought to our table. This was all finished off with some amazing bread pudding. While everything was great, I most enjoyed the fried chicken (which was more moist inside than any fried chicken I've had, with a nice cajun seasoned breading), crawfish etouffee (best I've had in OK, but haven't found this much), catfish strips with a fantastic dipping sauce. After all of that I lumbered my way to the bread pudding to top it all off, which was a good idea because it was fantastic.
The service was impeccable, with such friendly staff always making sure you're content. The chef, owner and other staff all at least once came over to see how we were enjoying the food. I overheard the owner saying that they offer catering for events also. This is a must try in an era of corporate restaurants. Not that I don't enjoy those like everyone else, but it's a nice change to see owners having a truly vested interest in the quality of food. My monday dinner was so good that I'm rounding up some more friends to indulge this weekend. Try this place if you like cajun food and you won't be disappointed. I think this place will definitely succeed, and think with a few aesthetic updates and a nice jazz group this place would be a diamond in the OKC restaurant scene. |

I think this offers OKC an expanded offering of dining options for the city. I love Cajun/Creole and living in Dallas I love to go to Pappadeaux. Excellent gumbo, red beans and rice and tasty andouille sausage. Their crawfish etouffe is so good. This is good for OKC instead of just Mexican and Italian, (ovesaturation in my opinion).

When I was chatting with the chef yesterday evening he mentioned that they don't have a website yet but that he'd mentioned it to the owner. Someone put them on Urbanspoon already, there are pics of the biegnets, catfish & chicken (though it looks like they've been eating the chicken lol). Cajun King - Suburban Northside - Oklahoma City | Urbanspoon
It's in the strip shopping center on the SW side of 63rd & McArthur, next to the bicycle shop. Used to be Wellington's Pancake House (I think that was the name). |

Went tonight. It was flipping awesome. Best catfish I've ever had. Cajun pasta (blackened chicken) was terrific, crawfish etoufee was a solid, solid rendition. Blackened pork chops were terrific. Gumbo was decent, jambalaya was decent. I don't eat a lot of red beans and rice, but I loved theirs. Bread pudding good. My mom and brother ate all the beignets when I wasn't looking! ![]() I'll be back a TON and if you're even remotely interested in this kind of food, I suggest you give it a shot. I loved it. Decor kinda blows, but this isn't a place that tries to woo you with that. |

I stopped in after reading on here last evening with my a fairly large party of 11. Some were skeptical, but after the first couple of bites they were very pleased. I enjoyed the catfish (especially the sauce), crawfish etoufee, and the blackened chicken pasta. My kids absolutely killed the beignets. Overall it was a great experience, as the wait staff was very helpful, and the food was even better. I have some more folks going to check it out this evening.

Oops, thanks for the correction OKCMallen! Guess I got myself turned around lol.
I need to go back sometime for dinner when I can actually stay to eat instead of getting it to go. They've got a few items on their dinner menu that I haven't seen on the buffet & am interested in trying - namely the roast beef and smothered okra. I'd also like to try their blackened catfish. |
