Default Toilet Summit

Ahhh...so here's what that Japanese guy was gearing up for by eating all those hamburgers......The World Toilet Organization is sponsoring a Toilet Summit in Beijing, China!

-------------
"Beijing Toilet Summit Is Super Bowl Of The Bathroom
Scholars, Designers, Environmentalists Expected To Take Part

BEIJING -- The WTO is co-sponsoring a meeting in Beijing, and there's not a protester in sight. That's because it's not the World Trade Organization, it's the World Toilet Organization.

Really.

Founder Jack Sim says good toilets are a basic human right.

Hundreds of scholars, toilet designers and environmentalists from 19 countries have dropped in on the three-day Toilet Summit. They're talking technology, lavatory management and the link between toilets and tourism.

As frequent travelers know, a good toilet can be an oasis -- so to speak -- if you get the trots while globe-trotting.

China has a reputation for awful public toilets. But Beijing, host of the 2008 Olympics, has spent $29 million building or renovating 750 public restrooms.

The conference high point will be a tour of those facilities"

"China Holds Toilet Summit To Flush Bad Reputation

BEIJING -- Beijing is looking to flush its reputation of having foul public restrooms.

City officials hope the upcoming 2004 World Toilet Summit shows an effort's being made to clean up the Chinese capital's bathrooms.

The issue has taken on added importance as leaders try to clean up the city before the 2008 Olympics.

The three-day summit begins Nov. 17.

About 150 environmentalists and toilet industry experts from 19 countries are expected to show.

Many of China's public restrooms are little more than open trenches.

Tourists are often disgusted with their stench and lack of soap, toilet paper and other basics.

Public urination is also a common sight in the crowded capital."
