  • Costco close to a deal in far north OKC

It looks like the second time will be a charm.

Costco is close to finalizing a deal to buy land on the southeast corner of N. Western and Memorial / Kilpatrick Turnpike.

Several years ago OKCTalk reported that Costco would be coming to the southwest corner of that intersection, but the Seattle-based company later walked away from a letter of intent to buy that property in favor of other markets, including Tulsa.

The latest location is directly across Western from the original site in the Chisholm Creek development.

The company later came back to the Chisholm Creek owners 4 different times, but talks stalled and ultimately the two sides broke off negotiations.

From highly credible sources, OKCTalk has learned a deal at this new site – where Lifetime Fitness first had a letter of intent before opting for Quail Springs Mall – is highly probable and that Costco has already invested significant money in engineering and planning costs, with the full intention of building on that property.

Costco opened in Tulsa in April 2016 to great fanfare while Sam's Club and Walmart continued their aggressive expansion in Central Oklahoma.

The proposed Oklahoma City location is a mile east of both Sam's Club and Super Walmart as well as a soon-to-be new concept Target (read our exclusive report here).

It now appears Oklahoma City shoppers may soon have a Costco of their own, as many seek an alternative to Walmart and its various store concepts.
