• OKC to get one of first new concept Target stores

As Target Corporation is launching an ambitious plan to upgrade of its highest volume stores, Oklahoma City will be one of the first markets to get a fully re-imagined Super Target.

The store at 13924 N. Pennsylvania near Quail Springs Mall will start a $12 million renovation this June that will redesign every department in the store and completely redo the exterior.

A Target spokesperson confirmed to OKCTalk that work will soon start and be complete by October.

Target announced last month at ShopTalk in Las Vegas their plans to remake 600 of its 1,800 stores by 2019.

The new stores will feature two entrances, one for general merchandise and another for on-line pickup and groceries.

With the new pickup system, customers will find dedicated parking spaces and will have he option of employees delivering the items directly to the car.

The interior of the new stores will feature curved, more circular center aisles and completely new merchandise displays.

This fall, all Targets will receive new technology that will allow employees to search inventory, take payment from a mobile point-of-sale system and arrange delivery, all from the sales floor.

The new stores will feel more upscale and sophisticated at a time when many discount chains are opting for bare-bones interiors and reduced services.

Work is underway on renovations in the Houston and Dallas area but the Oklahoma City Quail location should be complete about the same time and just before the holiday rush.

At this time, no other renovation of OKC-area Targets could be confirmed.
