  • Detailed plans revealed for new 9-story Canopy Hotel in Bricktown

Three new hotels are planned for property in east Bricktown that was formerly home to an auto repair shop.

The old Body Works site was purchased last year by local developer Fred Mazaheri and hotelier Champ Patel.

Preliminary plans called for a Canopy Hotel, Hilton's upscale “industrial” brand which is just now starting to launch in North America, as this Oklahoma City location would be one of the first on the continent.

Plans filed with the Bricktown Urban Design Committee will be reviewed in their May 11th meeting and reveal design details as well as plans to add structured parking, and 6-story Cambria and LaQuinta hotels in a future phase.

The Canopy would be nine stories and full service, with 147 rooms, balconies on the west elevation that face Bricktown and the skyline beyond and a rooftop restaurant and bar with an outdoor terrace.

The first floor will consist of meeting space, a fitness room and the main lobby area with a cafe and bar with outdoor seating.

The plans for the parking garage and two additional hotel will be submitted for formal approval at a later date.

There are currently 4 hotels completed in the Bricktown district and 13 in the entire downtown area, including 11 more under construction or planned.

If all are completed as currently envisioned, Bricktown would feature 12 hotels and downtown 24, a far cry from 1998 when downtown only had one hotel, the Sheraton.
