  • Mixed-use project in Uptown to add condos

As we were first to report in April, local developer Richard Steppe demolished the long-abandoned Hemi's Pizza on the northwest corner of NW 23rd and Olie.

Preliminary plans showed a modern 2-story retail and office building to front 23rd.

That project is currently out to bid to contractors and should be breaking ground soon. Now, Steppe has revealed plans to build condominiums directly north.

The living units will each be 3 levels and 2,450 square feet. Prices are expected to start around $615,000 and design is by Mass Architects.

The Uptown / 23rd Street area continues to thrive with the recent opening of Chae, Rockford, The Drake, Guyutes, and Pizza Gusto. They join Cheevers, Guernsey Park, The Pump, Back Door BBQ, Pizza 23 and Big Truck Tacos as major draws to the district. In addition, the renovated Tower Theater and adjacent Savings & Loan are set to open after the first of the year.
