I just found this commentary from the Austin statesmen writer John Kelso. Nothing like knowing OU losing causes such joy and patheticness in Texas.
Oklahoma deserves a pity party, or a greeting card |

Bradford out 2-3 weeks and Gresham out the whole season this might be a tuff season ahead!I am OK with that as long as they try their hardest and dont give games away with 8-10 penalties and 100 yds from those penalties per game! I just want a hard fought season with a bowl win!

Kelso is just the crusty, old curmudgeon of the paper...he also used to live in my neighborhood. His columns have become much more biting and rancorous since his wife died a few years back, of cancer I believe. He even stated that she was his filter in a column not long after her death. Evidently his new wife doesn't perform the same function for him.
Usually his diatribes are reserved for Californians and anybody who wasn't in Austin by the end of the 60's. He hates what Austin has "lost" due to growth, he is like most Austinites from that era, wishing it could still be the sleepy little hippie college town that it was 40 years ago. I saw it today and tend to put his columns in their proper perspective, which are nothing more than rantings from a bitter old man. |

I was able to see the game and OU did play much better. Only one, maybe 2 procedure penalties on the O-line. Ryan Broyles had a great game before getting crushed early in the 2nd half. Landry Jones made some great throws and made some others that, quite frankly, would not have been successful against a faster, more talented defense.
Observation: OU will have little success trying to run the ball straight ahead right now. The line just doesn't have the power and strength to open holes and back defensive lines up like last year. They got stopped again on a goal line stand. When they started to spread the field and swept their runs rather than trying to pound straight up the middle, they had far more success. Other than Broyles, the rest of the receiving corp was, again, invisible. Not sure if Jones just isn't looking elsewhere or they are not getting open. |

The offensive line looked much better...with the exception of the failed goal line push, Landry Jones looked very accurate with his passes, the defense looked awesome, but..........it was Idaho State.
With all due respect to the fans and players of ISU their team is one of the worst in the FCS (division2) Last year they were 1-11. So we didnt learn much. But at least the penalties were minimized.....wish I could say the same for the refs frequent play reviews!!! From here it gets much tougher week by week. I was fairly impressed with the crowd size at the begining of the game. And not surprised when most left at halftime. The weather was hideous. What did we learn? Not much. I did learn that M&M's do melt in your hands when its wet, popcorn looks like vomit when spilled, soaked and stepped on, ponchos dont really keep you dry, parking is a nightmare when it rains due to all the yards not available, and the stadium field drains very well....wish I could say the same for the stands. They were like mini waterfalls. All in all a good game for the Sooners to play this week....much like a practice. However I thik Jenks would have put up more of a fight than ISU. |

Even at 8-10 years old it was one of the funniest sights I have ever had. I still laugh about it. I love OU games - one of my favorite things to do in life. |

I was there too. And no, I'm not the old wet St. Bernard lady. lol I went to that game with my brother. It was one of the coldest wettest games I can remember. Much much worse than yesterday. If I remember right there was supposed to be snow later that night....I think I remember it changing over as we were driving home. It was so cold, and the rain was a very heavy downpour. We were about the only people left in our section towards the end of the game and we had to do stupid things to keep warm. Like dancing around like fools. I dont know why, but it was one of our favorite memories too. Bad weather means you really want to be there, and you'll do anything to keep warm. About the older donors section crowd....I remember that as well. Seeing all the older patrons in their outfits (that they'd obviously had for years and years). Like Cecil and his lil suit. lol. I loved that guy. People watching was, and is one of the best parts of going to the games. We have come to know everyone that sits around us and I have to admit, they've become like family every season. They teased me this week because my poncho was green. I should invest in a red gameday rain suit. |

My dad has gone to games for 55 years and was always known for staying until the end, no matter what. Its very sad to see him age to the point that he didn't even go yesterday. I missed him badly.

When I was just a little kid...I started going to games as soon as I could walk...I remember looking up at my mom and watching her sing the words to Oklahoma, and the OU Chant. Back then everyone knew the words and sang along. I remember looking up and thinking how beautiful my mom was, and how great she could sing. Now you got me all nostalgic..........sniff.
