OU got outplayed. Not an easy sentence to write, but a true one.

They had more false starts than a high school player in the back seat of dad's malibu.

I think they got out-coached. I believe OU has superior athletes overall. Why they can't convert that into big wins is a mystery to me. Setting aside the coaching, I think it was the penalties that sunk them. If you add up the yardage lost to penalties, it's equal to another touchdown...easily the difference in the game. I wasn't that worried when Sam went down because he hadn't done much to that point, plus I felt like Landry Jones could get the job done. And I still think Landry was doing well enough to win if OU hadn't insisted on shooting themselves in the foot at every opportunity.

Can someone be specific on Sam's injury and how long he will be out?

Kinda glad the pressure is off this season already...O-line looked as green as possible and the receivers aren't going to scare anyone

Hopefully it's OSU's time to shine cause I sure as hell ain't rootin for Colt and co

Actually the pressure is now even larger because there is absolutely no margin for error. OU has to win out to even have a chance to play in the BCS.

And yes they have a chance, if you are going to lose, lose early. The last three years the team that won the National Championship had at least one loss.

I would say their chances are VERY slim after seeing what they have to offer

Course that could end up being their worst performance but it will be hard to win anything substantial with first time starters all over the line and receiving corp

It is the first game and it takes time to get everything in order.

It is like you going to bowling, the first game, not so good, until you get more in sync.

I'm with 180 on this. On one hand, our 2000 Title season was a sloppy as hell season. TONS of ugly wins. However this year...you can't have an O-line that lets your QB become a floor mat every play. Yeah it sucks this may be a rebuilding year...especially since we may loose Bradford for sure next year. However, i'd rather us have a rebuilding year for the kids to grown knowing they have to earn every win...instead of thinking just because they have OU on the helmet - that they deserve to win.

The offensive line needs a lot of work. Thats painfully obvious. Watching the sooners self destruct while driving inside the 10 yard line was excruciatng. Who gets a delay of game on 4th and 1 on the 6 inch line? OMG. Idaho State on the schedule never looked so good!!!

Heres a scary thought. With Boise State and Brigham Young both winning the first....and hardest games on their schedules...whats going to happen if Boise, BYU, Florida and Texas all go undefeated? Right now ESPN has OU playing in the Cotton Bowl at the end of the season in their bowl projections with OSU in the Fiesta, and Texas-Fla in the NC game. NCAA College Football BCS Bowl Projections Week 1 - ESPN

Theres a lot of season to play but OU looked bad across the board, with a few exceptions (Gerald McCoy). They have Idaho State, then Tulsa before a week off, then Miami in Miami. Lets hope Sam gets well soon. Cause it (schedule) gets tough real fast after that. The latest news coming out isnt sounding promising though. Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Sam Bradford out indefinitely - ESPN

Hats off to Mike Gundy and OSU....they looked pretty good once they lost the yips they had early in the game. I wish OU could have done that. And Congrats to BYU for playing a great game ....esp on defense.

You know what is so odd about Bob Stoops is that during all the games, when anything goes wrong, he blows up. But afterwards, he seem to be a kind and gentle coach.

I'll miss the game this Saturday... Any games starting at 6, I'll miss it. I'll definately, somehow, try to take off for the Texas and OSU games.

Why a 53 yard field goal? Dont trust your quarterback and or receivers to get 15 yards for a 1st down? Tom Landry is good, Just youtube his high school reel to see what this guy can do. He has talent, Just hopefully the coaches will let him show it in the next game instead of spending his time looking towards the sidelines for the call to run up the middle.......

Very bad calls by the coaching staff in this game. Sam Bradford getting hurt is less then half of this story..

Here's a bit of my experiences at the game. JerryWorld is big and nice, but seems like on overgrown arena to me...maybe it was the carpet. Being in the architecture biz it is always interesting to go see new buildings.

The scoreboard info was pathetic, not every square inch of electronic board space needs to be used for advertising, you can give some of that space up for info, I don't need 30,000 lineal feet of board space to know that AT&T is the official telecommunications provider of the Dallas Cowboys, everyone is going to be able to see that even is some space is used for providing useful info. Speaking of that, cell service in and around the arena was horrible and I have AT&T service. No data service at all and all calls never came though, I just got messages. We were trying to meet up with the person who had my tickets and resorted to sending text messages back and forth and it usually took a few times to send those through.

Down in our seats it was hot, not outdoors hot but hot nonetheless, my wife thought it was fine. It felt great when we walked in from outside but after everyone piled in it got warm. My dad and uncle were sitting in Section 447 and had an A/C vent blowing on them, my dad said I would have loved that.

Getting in was easy (Lot 11), we got there early and at the Bone Fish place across Collins, packed with Sooner fans it was pretty good eats. Getting out was a different story we finally wound our way out of there taking a little over an hour to get out of the parking lot, not much different than some of the lots at Texas Stadium. We stopped at the Ihop at Plano Parkway near Preston on the way back to my uncles house, there were quite a few fellow Sooners in there and one BYU group showed up.

Here are some pics that my wife took...first the outside

One with my wife and people in it to give a sense of scale.
That is a Dallas Cowboys shirt that she is wearing (Tech grad), she didn't realize BYU had similar colors.

From our seats (Section 133, Row 14)

Hee hee! I was going to say they looked like one of John Blake's teams with all of the procedure penalties but this is much better.

Bluedog, I agree with most of your comments. The pictures don't do the place justice as far as the sheer size of the arena. It's MASSIVE, and when you walk in it's simply OVERWHELMING, especially seeing 100,000 or so fans sitting inside, plus all the workers and other activity going on. Surreal. Despite the loss, the experience was still a good experience. I left with about 10 minutes left in the game to beat all the traffic (we were still ahead at that time, and we got out with ZERO traffic)!!

I totally agree and heard lots of complaints about the scoreboard info, that the score and other stats were rarely up. I didn't get that either. Also heard a lot of men in the restroom (and I agree) that the restrooms were POORLY designed. That's the first mens room in a modern arena/stadium, that had long lines, mainly due to the poor layout (O ring shape). Too much wasted space and not enough urinals, also the one tv in the restrooms weren't working.

Cell phone service was typically no service, and their "free wi-fi" I could never connect to. Jerry definitely has some improvements to make, although the palace is still impressive. I heard he was at the game down in the loge boxes.

Metro, I'm not picking on you here but you left with TEN minutes of game time and the outcome wasn't even close to being decided yet? Do you leave the movie theater 20 minutes before the movie ends? Do you walk out of a concert before the band plays it's hit song? Do you leave the fireworks display before the big finale? I could understand leaving after the missed field goal because by then the game had been decided, but a full TEN minutes??

My game ticket was $100, it cost me $40 for gas to drive down, another $38 to park plus another $20 for food. So basically I paid $200 to go to the game. For that price, I'm staying for every single second.

I was in traffic for all of 45 minutes. I was home in Choctaw by 2:30 a.m. and that included stopping for food. Roughly 4 and a half hours after the final whistle.

For me, I can't understand why anyone would not want to get their full money's worth just to beat a little traffic.

I totally agree. I don't understand the mentality of leaving a game early - especially one that is close.

Well for one, we were playing crappy the entire game, two I left my SEAT about 10 minutes early, then had to walk down a couple levels so it was probably about 5 minutes or so left before the game ended by the time I got to the doors. I had SRO tickets so they weren't that pricey. Plus I had a wife with a bad knee who had been standing almost the entire game. To me it was worth it to get her back to the hotel and to not sit in bumper to bumper traffic as 100,000 people left in mass exodus. Typically I stay until after the game in Norman, but if you go to any home games, you'll know tens of thousands of fans leave early to beat the traffic, and Norman traffic isn't that bad, even on gameday.

Do "tens of thousands" of fans usually leave when the outcome of the game is still up in the air?

To be fair to Metro, generally at OU home games the outcome is decided at half time. And tens of thousands do leave.

Metro, I understand the wife's gimpy knee. Of course I would have just left her at home.

My tickets were at the very top section, around the 45 yard line. I was looking down at the video screen. Walking down that ramp after the game took a good ten minutes.

I will say overwhelmingly that Sooner fans were gracious in defeat, many of the BYU faithful commented on how great our fans were.

Right, which is why I qualified it with the whole "when the outcome of the game is still up in the air" part. How many thousands left before the end of the TCU game, for example? I'm just asking--the last time I went to a game in Norman, Cale Gundy was quarterbacking.

Not that they mean anything this time of the year except bragging rights, but the new polls are out. OSU is either 5th or 6th

and OU is either 13th or 14th depending on the poll you look at.
