Anyone know how bad the points/ratings/rankings will affect OU when Bob Stoops decide to switch all the good guys out and the newbies in for the 2nd half of the game?
It is okay to have some newbies in there, but not all of them at once. We need highest scores and all that stuff to boost us up for the BCS. |

I almost cringed when ESPN actually went into a break with "Thunderstruck." I kinda felt for the UW fans watching at home. Things were going badly enough for them at that point without reminding them why they hate Oklahoma. |

Frankly, I don't WANT OU number 1 at this point in time. We have a bad habit of starting to believe our own press, and then end up not playing up to that standard. We do much better as the underdog, when the chips are stacked against us, and the press is on the side of the other guy.
Don't forget, while Cincinnati was kind of a quality opponent, we really won't face our first test for another month, when we play Texas. I say, keep our rankings low and let it be #1 at the END of the season. |

In my opinion, I would rather have OU as #1 longest possible in case another National Championship decision chaos happen and OU would have a better chance to get it.
Last year, Hawaii got screwed when they won all the games with no shot at the National Championship. LSU, with two games in pathetic multiple overtimes, but still was given the free cheating pass. |

Yes, but Hawaii came from a Mid-Major conference, and was a victim of their own circumstance in that instance.
I still think it's too early at this point for OU to outrank USC, and if you look at the number of #1 votes we got in the AP poll (zero), that says that others don't believe we're the #1 team yet, either. Whether if that is because they don't believe we played another quality opponent yet, or because they know our history of peaking early then blowing it in the "big game," I don't know. If, at the end of the year, USC and OU are the only two teams to run the table, then we'll likely still be ranked #2 behind them. And again, frankly I prefer it that way. If we have to play them again, the last thing I want is a similar outcome! One can only endure a humiliation on that scale so many times. |

I agree that OU shouldn't be ranked #1, yet.
I think that once we start conference games, we'll flip with USC. Texas will give us a good game, but everyone tries to against OU. If Nebraska keeps winning, and Kansas stays competitive, and if Okie State breaks into the top 25, then our schedule suddenly looks a lot tougher than USC's. But..We have to keep playing as good as we are. By the time we beat Tech we should be #1. |

Being ranked #2 at this point in the season isn't that bad. Theres a lot of games to be played and a lot of upsets still to come. That said, I don't see USC losing a game this season unless they shoot themselves in the foot. Two of their toughest three games are at the coliseum (Oregon and Notre Dame) and UCLA is right across town. You never know what will happen in that game.
I'd be more worried about LSU or whoever survives the SEC unscathed leapfrogging OU. Right now thats seems unlikely, but you never know, I didn't think LSU deserved it last year. And right now the SEC has five of the top ten teams in the polls. The media and the voters seem fascinated with the SEC, they do this every year. I'd bet that most of the voters live east of the mississippi river and tend to vote for teams they hear alot about. Not really fair, but thats life. OU has the players and the coaching to go undefeated and should stay where they are if they beat Texas. Sorry... (when they beat Texas). Unfortunatley Missouri isn't on the regular season schedule, and Kansas isn't quiet as good as we thought they'd be, I don't really buy Nebraska as a top 20 team yet, and Texas Tech and Texas could hurt each other in the rankings (depending on the outcome in Lubbock) Call me a homer, but I think OU has a special team this year. Sam Bradford is much more mature than he was last year and seems to be making very good decisions with the ball in his hands. I can see him going down as one of the all-time greats in college football. Not nearly the amount of sacks (0 in 2008) or ill-advised throws as last year (which wasn't that many). ESPN - Sam Bradford Stats, News, Photos - Oklahoma Sooners - NCAA College Football My only concern, and I noticed it at the Cinncinatti game and watching the Washington game, is our attitude. Too many personal fouls and taunting of the other team. There was no need for our players to taunt the Huskies in the tunnel. We pissed them off and they took out Granger. Hopefully Stoops will settle them down and they will play like the champions they are. If you're the best at something, you don't have to prove it with your mouth, just your actions. So it looks like OU becomes number 1 and the new flavor of the month, if they take care of business this saturday.
And we can probably forget about my preseason prediction of OU/USC in the national championship. I was never really good at that anyways. I picked Detroit to win the ALCS pennant, and Milwaukee winning the series.. |

And, your Milwaukee prediction is still alive.

Mom watched the USC game last night. She wasn't sure if THAT was the real USC team. lol I couldn't believe her, I said, on Thursday?! Well, I checked, and yes, USC lost. I realize, if OU wins tomorrow aganist TCU (thought it was Baylor...), then the Sooners may be #1.
As for thinking it was Baylor this Saturday, blame it on KFOR Weather....

it's safe to say that the sooners will be in the top slot on monday. the only reason they wouldn't stay there would be losing (no duh) or a mediocre performance against an unranked team. if we blow TCU out of the water... we'll become the darling of the media. if missouri keeps playing like they have been... they'll keep working up the ranks not far behind us.

Couldn't agree with you more. On the flip side, if the unthinkable were to happen and OU lost, it would appear slightly better than USC's loss, which was to an actual unranked team.
