so we are not allowed to say anything against public schools? We are restricted to simply positive opinions? I find that highly restricting patrick.

Sorry, im very dum you said thread not topic, my mistake.

I'd like to get in a plug for my neighborhood school, Monroe, which ranked third in the OKC district on the state API with a 1291 despite having three-quarters of its students on free- or reduced-price lunches. (These are 2004 numbers; the state has yet to post 2005 figures, probably because the school year that started in 2005 hasn't ended yet.)

I'm going to give a shout-out to all the charter schools in the area. They are still free to everyone and public, and many of them do very well! My charter school had a 1291 API last year (2004) out of 1500. It was only our second year to be open, and that put us at the top of OKC public schools, and very near the top of all the high schools in the state!

I received a public school education and did just fine. I was valedictorian, went on to UCO and had a 3.95 GPA, was honored in several grade-based organizations, and participated in tons of great activities related to my area of study. I think I got a top-notch education, despite my small-town beginnings.

Well I have a compliment for three schools-

first is James Monroe Elementary...More specifically Mrs. Goodwin- some of the greatest times of my life

second is Belle Isle Enterprise Middle School-
When I left it we had the highest test scores in the region, some of the best teachers and most dedicated students to ever hold a pen...truly my greatest years...

third Harding Charter Preparatory High School-
Fairly nice. Dedicated teachers, and about half the student population is strong of will...

My son has gone to public schools all his life. He attended Fillmore Elementary, Jefferson Middle School, Southeast High School, and U.S. Grant High School.

He graduates in several weeks, and has excelled in everything he has done, as well as being involved in several extracurricular activities at school. He has had a few subjects that kicked his tail this year, but he has really improved.

My daughter attended Fillmore Elementary, and is now attending Belle Isle Middle School. Next year will be her last year at Belle Isle.

Both of my kids have thoroughly enjoyed their schools and their teachers. We could never afford a private school, so our kids have always been in public schools.

For those who hate the thought of their kids going to public schools, it is not as bad as you think.

i have four examples of schools i have been to.

James Monroe Elemantary- Great times i took for granted. i wish i could go back to elementary school.

Independence Charter Middle School- It was a good school. it was public and it was one of the bst middle schools in the nation second only to Belle Isle i believe.

Harding Charter Prep High School- An awesome public school that forces students to take AP classes. A very great school and one of the best in the nation among high schools.

Bethany Christian Academy- i went here for only three days. it was a private school. i went there in second grade and i was treated like a preschooler. social izing was not easy here and it was a strict environment. goes to show that public schools are great.

Hey, I went to Monroe Elementary myself and grew up in that neighborhood. Went there back in the late 80's early 90's. Loved it then.

I have 6th grader that will go to the NEW John Marshall next fall. Not to be confused with the OLD John Marshall. I wished they had changed the name! The new principle is great and the kids and parents are so excited. 6th grade will only be at JM for a year or two or until the feeder schools such as Quail Creek get their new buildings and have room to hold them. We will start the first year with grades 6-9 and increase yearly from there. I'm from Texas and I went to my neighborhood elementary school, junior high and high school. I hated that we didn't have that option for my oldest. I'm so sick of hearing negative stuff about the new school. Especially from people that don't even have kids in the system right now. Good schools are not products of the district but of the parents. The parents at the New John Marshall will make this a great school!

My only connection to Monroe is that I live nearby; I figure, if I talk it up a little, it might cast a nice light on the rest of the neighborhood.

Shout out to Edmond Schools..... love it, love it. love it!

My kids are very happy here and I love the parental involvement.. blows my mind how many parents show up to Parent/Teacher conferences - Open House - Silent Auctions, whatever, the parents are so supportive of these schools.
