I first noticed this 'trend' two years ago. It caught on pretty quickly in the fraternity world. As soon as it was popular though (as all things go), it quickly became shunned -- just like the New Kids on the Block or N*Sync (apologies to bandnerd, but it's true, N*Sync [why the asterix?] does suck and always did, I was just forward thinking enough to know this long before the rest of the world]). At any rate, as typically happens, highschool kids began to mimick what their older counterparts had already stopped doing. The malls then picked it up -- now they can sell more polo shirts -- I've even seen displays where the manequin was wearing multiple polo shirts for the multi-popped-collar effect. Sadly it has come to this : When I walk into Foley's, the first thing I have to do is fix the damned collars on the manequins. If I were in HS, my first thought would be: Why in the hell are my peers mimicking the manequins in Foley's? The painful truth of course is that popped collars were never okay. They were always silly looking. Collars were designed to be worn a certain way, and that's the only way they should be worn. It's as if suddenly it became trendy to wear your underwear outside your pants (please: no one take that as a suggestion!) Both underwear and collars have their intended uses. Collars are meant to be folded, not popped. Underwear is meant to be worn under your garments as a barrier between your garments and yourself. I only suggest that we all use our clothing for the purposes for which it was designed.

That was me once CA... You'll find that in the real world, appearances become very important at least when you're dealing face to face with clients.
I'm a big fan of schools with uniforms. I attended Bishop McGuinness, and although there was no uniform back then, professional attire was required. I thought it was helpful. I've been by HCP (a local high school) a few times and have been pleased with what I've seen as far as the uniforms go.

I understand that eventually appearences will become important, i have been to my share of formal and important events, i just understand also, that currently in my stage of life, they are not important at all.
HCP, is that that new farts school in the old harding building? |

HCP an arts school? Nope.. there is an arts school in that building, however, I'm not really sure that the arts school there deserves to be called a "school" -- such a term implies that actual learning occurs there.
I think that's the Harding Fine Arts Acadamy or something. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I may be dating myself here, but wasn't popped collars cool back in the '80s for a while? I hated it then too. What's next? Turquoise blazers with the sleeves pushed up to the elbow a-la Miami Vice?

i do not understand the mind of so many of my peers as to what is cool in clothing wear. It just doesnt make sense. They would be embarassed to be seen in only underwear, and yet when you can see the same amount of underwear they are no longer embarrassed
