Midtowner,

Derek competed this weekend at the Edmond Chamber Music Festival for the first time Saturday and guess what??

He got 2 #1 Superiors - Medals in his Duet and his Ensemble

and 1 Excellent on his Solo!

I know you probably have tons of these but this is our first competition and I'm so proud of him! I went in when he played his solo and I got all teary eyed watching him play for the judge.. he is growing so fast!

Anyway, okay, I'll try to be humble but I'm so excited (I just picked him up and he took out his medals and ribbon to show me - I was so proud - he's proud of himself too)

What was he playing? Who were the judges?

Violin - He played the solo -Trumpet Voluntary

Duet -Three Gavottes

Ensemble- Dragon Dances

I don't know who the judges were - an older lady and a young man. But I love them!:tweeted:

Congrats to your son and you, Karried! It's such a feeling of accomplishment for the kiddos when they do well at solo/ensemble contest.

And if you want to know your judges, if he has his critique sheets they have to sign...if you can decipher them

Thanks bandnerd, good idea on the critique sheets... will they give them to him?

I know his teacher gave him the medals and ribbon at school so maybe she has the sheets - I wonder if she will give him copies.. if not, I'll ask.

the sheets are probably with the teacher. They are also good to help learn what can be improved in the future.

Regardless of who judged your son, he definitely deserves the credit. The judges were just doing their jobs.
