There is a wonderful website you can go to and see profiles and reports of area schools around the nation. They cover public and private schools. They show testing score averages, class sizes, etc.

From the State Deparment of Education website. The first column is county, the second is town, the third is the name of the school, the fourth is the average ACT score.

okieopus, are you talking about the 2005 Oklahoma ACT scores?
They're listed on the state department education website. http://www.sde.state.ok.us |

Deer Creek is outstanding - that's where I want to move - can't get much higher on those test scores - sheesh!
Edmond is doing really well also. Yeah, OKC needs a little help - I like the idea of uniforms in some OKC schools this year. I guess they had problems with girls wearing tiny half shirts and gang colors were becoming a problem. Maybe if they don't have to worry so much about designer clothes and the wrong colors, they can concentrate on school work instead of clothes. Why do you think the more affluent communities are doing well on test scores? Higher property taxes? More parental involvement? More available funds and amenities offered to students? What are your thoughts on the correlation between income and education? And if money is the only issue, how can we hope to improve education for lower economic students?

Science school leads state scores on college exam
By Michael Bratcher The Oklahoman Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics again has topped the state with its average ACT score and likely ranks among the best schools in the nation with its score on the college-entrance exam. Donna Roberts, school spokeswoman, said the average composite score for 2005 graduates was 31.3 out of a possible 36 points. The state's average score was 20.4, but Roberts said her school's score isn't included in the state average because the school doesn't report its numbers to the state Education Department. The science and math school, which draws juniors and seniors from across Oklahoma, operates as a separate agency from other state schools. School President Edna McDuffie Manning said the school has "some of the brightest students from high schools all across the state." Students take rigorous college courses in math, science, humanities and social sciences. "So our students are particularly well-prepared when it comes to sitting for standardized tests like the ACT and the SAT," Manning said. Roberts said her school in past years has ranked No. 1 nationally for its average score. An ACT official said his company stopped providing national rankings a couple years ago because it promoted competition among high schools. The national average this year was 20.9. Ken Gullette, an ACT spokesman, said math and science schools often achieve high scores because they attract top students and offer more rigorous courses. He said many students in traditional high schools aren't as prepared because they aren't taking core classes to prepare for college. For example, 56 percent of students nationally are taking recommended courses, but just 41 percent are prepared for college algebra. "This shows that there is a disconnect -- many so-called 'college prep' courses aren't teaching the skills appropriate for the course," he said. "So naturally, in schools like special math and science schools, where the courses are more rigorous and the students are actually taking the high-level courses, achievement will be higher." Edmond Memorial High School and Classen School of Advanced Studies tied for the highest average score -- 23.8 -- among high school data the Education Department reported. Other Oklahoma schools scoring high were: Kremlin Hillsdale, 23.4; Buffalo Valley, 23.3; Edmond North, 23.2; Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences, 23.1; and Norman High and Jenks, 23. |

That depends on what test scores you are asking for. SAT scores are already being reported.
The EOI and API scores will be reported in a couple of weeks. The schools are getting last year's scores back and are sharing them with the teachers and staff and comparing them with other schools in the metro area. At least that's what my little charter school did this week. ![]() Give it a few weeks and you'll be able to find these scores. Sometimes I think they report them in the paper. The school's websites can also give you the scores from 2004 as it pertains to EOI scores for certain areas of education (math, science, reading, writing). The API scores range from 0-1400. Edmond schools are around 1200, Classen SAS is going to be around 1100 or so, as well as Northeast Academy (is that the right name?) and many OKC public schools are much, much lower. My little charter school got a 1255, and we've only been open for 3 years! I'm also not sure if private schools like HH and Casady report things in the same way the public schools will. I'm sure you can Google them and find out what the scores were this time last year. Good luck finding the information! |

When are the API scores being released?
More ACT score school news: "Edmond students score big on ACT" By Tami Watson The Oklahoman EDMOND - When it comes to ACT scores, Edmond students don't have much room for improvement. According to 2005 average composite scores for Oklahoma high schools released last week, Edmond Memorial High School was at the top of the list, tied for first in the state with Classen School of Advanced Studies. "I don't think you can beat that with a stick," said Brenda Lyons, associate superintendent for Edmond Public Schools. "I was at Memorial earlier today, and their theme for this year is 'Failure is Not an Option.' Here is a school that is number one in the state in ACT scores, and that's what they are striving for." Coming in at fifth place was Edmond North High School, and Edmond Santa Fe High School was ranked 14. There were 1,010 students from the district who took the ACT last year, Lyons said. Other metro area schools also ranked high. Norman High School took seventh place, Norman North High School was ninth, Deer Creek High School was 11th and Okarche High School was 19th. Edmond Memorial had a composite score of 23.8, North, 23.2 and Santa Fe, 22.3. Lyons credited the high rankings to the district's advanced placement classes, No Child Left Behind legislation and school staff. Two students in the Edmond district received perfect scores on the ACT this year. Gavin Pearson, a senior at Edmond Santa Fe, and Savannah Willson, a senior at Edmond North, both received a 36 on the test. They were among only 32 students in the nation to score perfectly. "We really work hard at every level to improve academics. It's really just an overall focus on excellence," she said. "More and more kids are taking our advanced placement classes, and when you have those challenging classes, they certainly contribute to ACT scores." Rounding out the top 10 were Kremlin Hillsdale High School, 3; Buffalo Valley High School, 4; Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences, 6; and Jenks High School, 8. "All three of our schools did a great job," Lyons said. "We're very proud of our schools and our staffs. I think people have to look at us and say that we are working very hard and achieving academic excellence. That reputation is one we strive not only to keep, but to enhance." Other metro schools ranking in the top 50 include Putnam City North High School, 32; Mustang High School, 34; Dale High School, 42; Yukon High School, 47; and Del City High School, 50.
