To my Christian brothers and sisters out there, and the rest. For the past two years at the annual Southern Baptist Convention a dear brother of mine has called for a boycott on public schools, mainly those that push a homosexual agenda. I personally would not put my children in public schools because of the secualr influence they would be placed under there. I'm not sure people in my church should be sending their children to public schools either. What do you think?

Rev. Bob - I have two children. A five year old son and a 4 month old son. My five year old has gone to Liberty Baptist in Shawnee and Life Christian School for 3 years now. I love the private christian schools. I wanted nothing other than for him to continue to go there until he graduated. I loved the christian values they helped to teach him as well as their educational plans. However, with the new baby and the new day-care cost there is no way I can afford the cost of private school any longer. I will put my faith in God for the public school system to work out for my children as it did for me. |

Rev. Bob
Again you and I disagree... Public education has always been the bedrock on which this nation was founded. The idea that education should be available to all is paramount. Private schools are a choice, but everyone has a right to public education. Oh and by the way, do you have a copy of the "Homosexual Agenda" ? I certainly would like to read it, as it didn't come with my manual when I was recruited to be a homosexual in my elementary school. |

A boycott on public schools? Interesting. As a mother of 3 explain to me how I would pay for this? I am raising my children with strong christian values. However I will not teach my children to ignore, hate, discriminate, disrespect or condem another human being. Can you give us an example of the "homosexual agenda" you are referring to?

There is no way that I could boycott public schools, especially since both of my children attend them. When my son was old enough to go to preschool, we did put him in a private Christian school. He stayed in that school for several years, until it got to the point where we could not afford it anymore.
He has never had any problems with public schools, and neither has my daughter. As a matter of fact, they both do excellent in school. Of course, when they were younger, they learned about morals, Christian values, and to respect other people. Personally, I would be against a homosexual teaching my children. Teachers have a large influence on kids nowadays, and I pity the children that are taught that homosexuality is alright. |

Although I have nothing against private schools, I can say I went to a baptist school from 7th grade on, and to be honest, it did nothing to prepare me for the real world out there, and actually hurt me in some ways. Public schools are only as good as the students, if they want to learn, they will, if they dont, they wont.

Personally, I don't think Christians leaving the public schools is the answer. In fact, it makes the problem worse. Rev. Bob, how do you plan on reaching these students in public school if we pull all of the "Christians" out of public school? Jesus put us here on this planet for one reason....to reach the lost. If you pull your children out of public school obviously, you're not teaching them to reach the lost. No, instead your teaching them to avoid the lost.

You never gave us an example of the "homosexual agenda" you refered to. I can still play dumb because my oldest is going into the 7th grade and attends a private Catholic school. My other two will attend the new John Marshal. Well, I'm going to say we are going to start out there and see how it is. Money is my main motivator here. I just don't see what it is you are talking about. My children have to grow up and live in the real world. They have to know how to handle conflict, how to handle people with different religious views, sexual orientations, different beliefs. I want them to respect the rights of other indivuals and their right to believe what they want. I want them to stay true to their own beliefs as well and learn to stand up for themselves when challenged. I'm not going to hide the real world from them. That would be doing them a huge injustice. I don't understand the message you are sending out. What do you want to accomplish with all kids in private Christian schools?

man private school kids can be some of the wildest partiers...heh
I say just trust God. The only reason I would place my daughter into a private school would be for a tougher education curriculum and better teachers. I hate the thought of my daughter having the inadequate teachers that I've had to pass time in school with. |

My kids went to the same Catholic grade school I attended. Three years ago I took them out and put them in Edmond schools. The enrollment day at Edmond I have no doubt the teachers thought I was a basket case. I cried the entire time, each time they asked where they were transfering from. I was a single mom and could not afford the $500 a month for two children. I made an appointment with the priest to talk about some assistance and was told that because my family gave lots to the church, they should be able to pay their tuition. It really put me down on the church. My parents have been members there for over 30 years. When my little brother passed away, all donations went to that church and from what I understand lots was given. My kids are not my families responsibility so I was not going to ask them to pay. Not that I am adainst Hispanics being able to send their kids there but if that is where all the reduced tuition is allowed then it is pretty sad. Three years later, my children have done great, chosen friends wisely (for a teenager that is the key to staying out of trouble), I can relate more to the parents and I am not pressured into giving a certain amount to the church each year. As long as my kids continue to make wise choices and are happy, I will know that was the right decision for our family. That extra money has enabled us to move into a new home with twice the size we did have.
Just my personal experience, not my opinion. You will hear me say 100 times, you gotta do what is right for you and your family
