Default Oklahoma Teacher Salaries

What is the teacher pay scale in Oklahoma. I am currently living in Texas and I am very interested in coming back to Oklahoma to be closer to family.

I will put it this way. We will be glad to have you, however, expect a paycut of about 50%.

I have been teaching for 5 years. I am making close to 40,000. Do you have any idea how comparable the pay is. 50% sounds pretty steap? I could not take that big of a paycut.

Not being aware of your experience, it may not be as deep. However, Oklahoma is among the lowest paid in the industry.

Where do you get your data this time? Made it up?

From the Texas educational website:

Quote:
Texas Workforce Commission - Texas will need over 82,000 new teachers by 2008. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects teaching as one of the fastest growing occupations over the next 5-10 years and beyond, with demand and growth continuing to increase. The average teacher salary in Texas is $38,857. Special programs and incentives are available to help people become and remain teachers.

From Brad Henry's website:

Quote:
Oklahoma’s average teacher salary is $34,877, well below the regional average of $38,527. Every other state in Oklahoma’s seven-state region – Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico and Texas – pays its teachers a higher average salary.

Now, I'm no mathematician, but the difference between 34K and 38K is hardly "50%".

Please stop posting made up information as fact. You do a huge disservice to our state and city when you misrepresent us in such a negative light.

Thank you for the feedback midtowner. The difference is not too bad. I could survive teaching in Ok. I was just curious in case I do decide to move that way.

Not reading again, I see. I said I did not know the experience level because it was not revealed. IT was an estimate based on THE FACT I LIVED IN TEXAS FOR EIGHT YEARS.

Oh, so call center reps in texas are paid twice what they are in Oklahoma? Is that what you are referring to, that is what you do isn't it?

I really doubt inbound sales reps in Texas for Dell make $20 an hour. I mean, I guess if someone did a search in Austin on that info you'd know. I knew a project manager for Dell that moved from Austin and helped open the outsourced call center for Dell in Bartlesville, I think they are tech support, but I'm not sure, and I think she said the reps in Bartlesville made about a bit less than the people in Austin, but nothing like 50% less.

Okay, you are being very funny here.

So let me get this straight... you admit that you don't know. You admit that you "estimated", yet you allege that you are correct because you lived there for 8 years?

Please refer to the above information and tell me how in the heck you could "estimate" a 50% difference. It's bad enough that you made up your numbers, but if you persist in defending your false numbers, it should provide many of us here with some much needed entertainment.
