I was just wanting to put some feelers out on what people might think of having a public aquarium in Bricktown. The idea of the aquarium is similar to the Dallas World Aquarium in the Westend, downtown Dallas. It would be a small facility at first, using existing buildings. Over the years the exhibits and size of the facility would grow through multiple expansions. The aquarium would have a restaurant. It would provide a unique forum for after hours events like weddings, corporate events and so on. It could include educational tours and programs for school groups from surrounding schools. Most important it would provide a daytime family activity in Bricktown instead of another bar or $5 parking lot.
Anyway I just wanted to see if anyone would think this might be a popular addition to Bricktown?? |

Doesn't Bass Pro have an aquarium?
j/k ![]() How about on the River? Personally, I'd like Bricktown to retain it's more bar/restaurant feel (and maybe even regain some of it), while the River is developed more as a touristy/civic area. I think it would be cool to see an aquarium in the middle of a city park like the river area could be. I think cool it would be to take a water taxi from downtown to look at the land run exhibit, visit the Inidan Culture Center, take in the aquarium, and maybe stroll around on some paddle boats. Then take a taxi back and have dinner on the canal and hang out in some pubs and clubs in bricktown. |

I think an aquarium would be nice, but let's try something different. How about a tank where you can actually flyfish?
The possibilities are endless. Let's think of ideas no one's tried before.

An aquarium for OKC would be nice, but I don't want it to look as if we're copying off Jenks. We'd have to make this aquarium unique. Putting it in existing warehouses would be nice, but building it on part of Bass Pro's parking lot might be a better option.

The Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks has a fishing pond and dock, and a fishing museum. They recently have added a "beach" area overlooking the river. I don't really think you can compare anything in a Bass Pro to a full scale aquarium.

I think an aquarium is a great idea - you know what I love? The tunnel aquariums that go over the top and you ride a conveyer belt through it - the sharks and fish swim above your head ... it is awesome. We used to have an Annual Family membership at the Monterey Bay Aquarium... every year. We had gorgeous jelly fish aquariums and some of the largest tanks in the US. I never tired of going and spending the day - it was so beautiful.
I'm feeling homesick today.

How about someting that where its an aquarium as well as an addition to the canal. Actually have it where the water taxi would travel through a tunnel, having big aquariums on both sides with all different types of stuff. Something that would be very interesting to see. Well light, nice 5 minute tour through the only water taxi aquarium. Around the outside maybe add some kind of pond and gift shop, or soemthing to do about educational fish hatchery or something like this. A place to stock up the river fish. Areas where the fishing would be in an abundance. Having a city licencense to fish there, with dividends of the license going back to the research and care of such programs. Just ideas.

That's a great idea, a water tunnel while on the Taxi... it would be very expensive but I think that would be a wonderful attraction. Too bad we couldn't get a tie in from Bass Pro - although I would prefer beautiful tropical fish/saltwater over a large mouth bass
anyway, I think that would be a great addition to the canal if it could be done.

Saltwater fish could be done. Tie in something where it goes over the top. Again, we are after all looking for something nobody else has, lets make it as spectacular as we can.

okrednk, i was thinking the exact same thing.
you know we the people of this forum should be in charge of the projects in bricktown, not the people actually running it. they have the most uninspired ideas. yeah, bricktown would be so awesome and not just another memorial rd with a canal thrown in for good measure. |
|

Imagine the possibilites there are while creating something like that. I would really like to see something special that would attract visitors to the canal. The canal project could be huge, lets start a revolution and start building a United States attraction. If we could only get the waterpark and amusement park online and build it along the river. Talk about people coming all the time, if done right this city could explode on expansion. Just imagine, the two parks located along the river, plus getting a professional NBA team, talk about the number of people. Now is the time to get a business in bricktown. Things that you can't get in other states, these are what attract people.
