So, the whole area could be developed into some sort of transition that would draw people both ways: Bricktown to the north and Boathouse Row to the south.

And because the new I-40 will pass directly to the south (and I believe this section will be more at grade rather than below it) I'd like to see something added to the monuments to really catch the eye as you drive past; at least illuminate them and perhaps add more height to part of the display.
Your thinking is right here. I don't know if you've been down to check out the grading around the cotton gin area but it looks to me as if the highway won't go below grade until just east of BNSF viaduct or a tad farther west.

A museum would also provide a true destination for the Bricktown Canal water taxi.

As it is, you get on, ride around, turn around and come back. You get to the end and there is little there except for the current sculptures, a bit of a park and a big parking lot.

At the very least, a viewing platform could be built that would offer a great view of all the sculptures with the skyline in the background. This will be even more appealing when the old I-40 and the related billboards are razed.

Poor planning and no thought given to "what if" scenarios such as labor and material increases on a project with a long time completion horizon. Now Mayor Mick says we will worry about that when the money runs out. Typical. Hello Mr. Taxpayer this is your chance to make OKC a "Big League City". Yeah, we screwed up the planning with our typical mode of operation, But, you have a chance to extend the Ford Center tax and our poor planning will disappear. Taxpayers will catch on to this scam sooner or later.
You think the increases in prices of materials over the last few years haven't surprised anyone but poor, stupid Oklahoma City? That's ridiculous. Projects all over the country have been delayed, cancelled, and scaled back because of it. But of course you have a CONSTANT negative attitude about everything.

And George Bush is not my president. I don't begin to know what that was insenuating. I do not need you to tell me the condition of the NPS. I'm a member of the National Parks Conservation Association. But perhaps you forget that Dubya is leaving office in less than a year. McCain or Obama--either way we'll have better funding for NPS.

Pete, I definitely agree there should be a Land Run museum there, national designation or not. I say put it right on top of that blasted surface parking.

I know we just opened the Oklahoma History Museum near the state capitol but there really isn't a history museum just for Oklahoma City.

So, perhaps we could start with the Land Run and expand from there. Doug Loudenback could be chief curator!

Seriously, there is much about OKC that needs to be preserved and displayed. Perhaps there could even be a series of small museums/kiosks/displays scattered around downtown. One could be in the FNC Great Banking Hall, another at the Civic Center, more in Deep Deuce, Bricktown, Santa Fe Station, etc. etc. They all could be connected by light rail.
