Ok I will explain in detail the extent of the conversation.
I called the police friday morning... I was told the police would not come out for a report. A lady called and asked 3 questions... 1. Where was the item stolen from. I replied behind my business. 2. Did they enter the business to steal the ac unit. I replied No, it was on a stand right outside. 3. What kind of AC unit was it? I replied with the brand name. She knew my name she pulled it up when she ran my business name. She then asked for my eye color my hair color my height and weight? I replied with the right answers. She asked my DL # I gave it to her.. Then she asked my social security # I replied that is not an identifier. I know what they do .. My dad was a police officer in OKC for 13 years.. Plus I have police as clients. There is no need to give out your social to anyone. AT ALL PERIOD!!! This is only for the SS commision. It should not be used at all from anyone other than them. I have had my identity stolen in Texas. SO. I am hesitant to give any info out at all.

I wouldn't give my SS# to anyone over the phone. Cops are no exception and are not above using the information for ill intended purposes. My former co-worker stole SS#s from incident reports and then obtained credit cards for his self. He was a University Police Officer with over 5 yrs of service. He is now in a Texas prison cell with his life ruined. It's also true that officers don't want to get involved in BS at the end a long 12 hour shift. Let the next shift deal with it.

I have listened long enough to my police scanner to know that the majority of the shift one officers will not take a call after 4 PM, in fear that they will get tied up and have to work overtime. |

The call was not the point.. Here is the point on the Monday before 2 patrol officers pulled over a 1 legged man in a wheelchair. Now they wont even come and take a report.. I did not think they would catch the person or persons that took the AC its the principal of the matter .. At least do your JOB...
AC's are easy to replace.. However why should citizens pay for theft if the police that are hired to protect and serve are at On Cue right down the road from me and can't just drive over??? Or why are they at On Cue but cant just do a safety sweep of business in the neighborhood.. We have a million dollar shopping strip, we pay our taxes and we are building the community or trying with jobs and revenue and you cant come take a report or do a drive by to see if those business are ok??? Well I guess that is left up to me and trust me now I patrol this shopping center at all times .

I'm sorry that happened to you, HottCutz, and it's sad that they probably won't do anything about it. When my friend got assaulted and nearly robbed a couple weeks ago, the officer said it was a high priority because of the assault. Because of the way it happened, and the friendly manor in which the jerk was treated beforehand, my friend was able to provide: his name, current address, phone number, mobile phone number, address of his "girlfriend", and a digital camera with photos of him on it that the lowlife left in my friend's car. (He let him use a computer in his office to check his mobile minutes and was able to log in using his password to retrieve the information.)
They still didn't 'get' him. |

I have the pleasure of dealing with Police from every municipal and county around, every day. Its like Forest Gump and his box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get.
I do not usually get into the rudeness of some of the folks that post here, but. Mranderson, it is very sad that you would wish anything bad towards anyone else. Have you not had your own troubles and heartache this year and I do recall many posts to you, supporting you when you were in need?? This person was victimized by a criminal and should at least be given the courtesy of support by normal rational people. Sorry, just the way I see it. |

Hott, I totally agree with you about not giving your SSN. Too many people ask for these days like they have a right to it.
My wife took my oldest son to one of those urgent care places over the weekend. They asked for and she gave my SSN because they said they couldn't file my insurance without it. C'mon, you can use any number to tag something like that, it doesn't have to be the SSN. Needless to say, I was upset when she got home. I hate that everyone seems to treat it as a national ID (which I'm also against) now and asks for it for anything from filing a police report to ordering dish satellite. |

I work with local police almost every day and see them as human. They make mistakes. The young cops make a lot of them. Unfortunately, the police department attracts a lot of individuals who already have an authoritarian attitude (sound familiar, Mr. Anderson?) and that causes problems. As for this particular situation with Hottcutz, it sounds like a cop sent to desk duty and asked questions that simply don't make sense to ask the victim. What does the hair color of Hottcutz matter? Bizarre questions actually. But as bad as some cops can be, try to remember the pressure of the job. It gives them no pass on rudeness, incompetence or anything else, but for those on the other side, it's just something to remember. It's a thankless and dangerous job. --------- |

You are talking about cops. People sworn to uphold the law. I will NOT backdown, so I request you give up. Plus, I am not "wrong." You are wrong due to your attitude. I do not mean incorrect, which is also applicable, I mean wrong. As in "wrongdoing." Try refusing to give a cop your social security number when you are stopped for speeding or something and see where that gets you. |

I've only been pulled over 2 times but never have I been asked for my SS number... Driver's License, Registration, Proof of Insurance .. SS number? .. no I don't recall that. Of course this was in CA so it might be different here in OK..

I appreciate you all Standing up for me..
Thanks It is coming across loud and clear. Mr Anderson.. we can see you are trying to make a point, although we disagree you keep bringing it up. I made an opinion about what I thought was wrong with the whole picture, you disagree. Let us agree to disagree. But in the mean time please give your SS # to whoever you want and I will to decline to give mine out. There all said and done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Listen I have seen enough baiting on this thread. Please let this drop.
I have a difference of opinion on OKC police than some I can see that, When my shopping center has been broken into 9 times in one year and nothing has been done to catch anyone.. Not just in my store but the 2 others that surround me.. That is not saying much for OKC Police. As far as SS #'s being asked for when you get pulled over.. We all know that is not reality, this is just a way to keep a debate going. As of NOW .. The debate is over... Thanks ever so much

Plus. As far as you THINKING nothing has been done. This is a city with nearly 600,000 people and guests that bring that total even higher. Not every crime can be solved. I bet they are doing more than you think. NOW it is over. |
|

|
No. Now it is over.
Sorry, had to do that. This whole argument is so dumb. People are going to disagree about the police force everywhere you go. However, I doubt that most people would feel you should blindly trust someone just because they have a badge. Especially with something as precious and important as your SS#. If you have never been a victim of identity theft, then maybe you don't understand where those parties who have are coming from. Perhaps then, instead of berating them and trying to make them look stupid by saying they are "wrong" and that you wish them harm or unhappiness, maybe you should try putting yourself in their shoes, and seeing something from their point of view instead of constantly trying to make YOUR point the loudest, most obnoxious one.

I had this come up a few times over the years. Once an officer told me to go back inside my house when he was in my neighbors yard regarding a argument between my elderly neighbor and a man from a few streets away. I reminded him he had no authority to make me leave and I was acting as a witness since the cop was trying to refuse to allow my neighbor to make a report. The next time was in Norman and a police officer asked for my ID. I wasn't driving, I wasn't with any alcohol and no crime had been committed so I politely told him 'no.' When he got in my face I took my PDA out of my pocket and placed it on the counter. He asked what I was doing and I told him it had an audio recorder feature and that for both of our protection I was going to record our conversation. That pretty much stopped it right there and he turned around and left. The last time was when an elderly family member got into a car accident downtown. He called me since I work in the area and told me it seemed the person who hit him was known to the cop and the cop was acting like he wasn't going to issue the guy a ticket. I walked over and started taking pictures of the accident for record. The cop tried to tell me to stop. I told him unless he could prove I was somehow hurting his investigation to just leave me alone. The officer did not issue the man a ticket and tried to write up the report as if the accident was both driver's fault. The photos proved otherwise and I was glad I didn't let the officer bully me. I was always taught, if you know you're right you'd better stand up for yourself because no one else is going to. |

Off topic a bit.. but this reminds me of getting pulled over in Puerto Vallarte in a rented jeep with my two young boys ( age 5 & 10) and husband..
Try telling a Federale with a Rifle pointed at you anything other than 'Si Senor'! lol.. but as BailJumper says... proof is in the pudding - I whipped out my video camera and started taping them which made them VERY uncomfortable.. and after 40 min of trying to extort cash from us (tourists), they finally let us go after threatening jail time, and threatening to make us miss our cruise ship.. not a fun feeling thinking we're headed to Mexican prison, never to be seen again! Supposedly, we ran an imaginary Stop Sign. So, I guess it could be worse, but Police aren't above the law although I know many who think they are..
