My wife and I stayed at the Waterford Marriott this weekend for our 1 year anniversary.
I definitely wouldn't give the hotel more than a 3 star rating. I'd say the rooms were just average.....better than a Motel 6, but nothing extraordinary. Service was average...nothing spectacular. The hotel is beautifully decorated, and the heated outdoor pool is gorgious. Still, I question paying $169 a night for what I got there. I will admit the beds were very soft, but the rooms weren't overly large. The restaurant isn't spectacular. We ate both dinner and breakfast there, and for what we paid, I should've gone over to Bellinis. Service was good, but the food was just average. For a Marriott, I'd just say the Waterford is average. I didn't dislike it, but I probably won't go back either. We stayed at the Courtyard Downtown during Downtown in December, and I was much more pleased with my stay there. I'm now looking forward to a stay at the Colcord this December! |

I highly reccommend BiddingforTravel.com (in conjunction with Priceline, of course). There are some caveats, particularly for OKC, as it isn't a major destination (yet), so there's less comparison data, but it's still worth looking into. I've just noticed that Priceline has an interesting new feature: When I entered a "Name Your Own Price" value of $40 the page refreshed and produced a message: "Based on recent data, your price has only a small chance of being accepted.". When I entered $50 the message went away. I know that, in years past, Priceline provided random hints/suggestions to users but this feature seems persistent. Update: Checked Priceline/Austin: the low-bid warning didn't occur, so it's another one of Priceline's random hints (or it's market-based). |

I think it's a good idea to get a room at a hotel every so often in your own home town with someone you love just to add spice to things. I stayed at the Waterford Marriot for one night the first time I came to OKC and although it was nice the other four nights I stayed at the Hampton Inn at I-35 and 2nd...it was just as nice to me and I felt a little more comfortable there with the pool area and all.

Why do you guys continuously respond to Survery? It's like having a battle of wits with the Village Idiot.
Treat it like you would a petulant child...ignore it long enough and it might go away. |

My wife and I go to local hotels all the time. 4-5 times a year we'll check into a place and enjoy a night or two just enjoying not being at home - and away from all the responsibilities. Patrick, when I read your original post I felt happy for you, remembering my wife's and my first anniversary spent much like you and your wife's.

To each his own. But, just to improve my image with you, my wife and I are flying to Albuquerque, and are planning no staying a week in Santa Fe and Taos in late June. We simply couldn't go for our anniversary because I'm studying for medical boards.
By the way Survey, this was a thread discussing the Waterford Hotel and my thoughts about it, not whether it's cool to stay in a local hotel. Back to topic. |
