Thumbs down Wal-Mart

I'm pretty much fed up with Wal-Mart. Went there to spend about $200 on groceries again tonight. The cashier was rude, the parking lot was trashed, the clientale was low life, other shoppers were rude, the store was filthy. I completely stopped shopping at the Belle Isle Wal-Mart earlier last year, but now I seem to be having the same problems at every other Wal-Mart.....Memorial and Penn, I-40 and MacArthur, and even NW Expressway and Council. Service sucks at all of them.

I think tonight was my last trip to Wal-Mart for a very long time. I'm just sick of the low atmosphere. It isn't like Crest and Target are much more, and the shopping atmosphere is so much better. I guess SuperTarget at Memorial and Penn and Crest in Edmond will be getting my business now.

Default Re: Wal-Mart

I have completely stopped spending my money at Wal-Mart.

I am not sure if your aware or not but, Crest has a new store and Hefner and Rockwell where the Homeland store used to be.

The staff is great, the store is clean, the prices are comparable to and sometimes cheaper than Wal-Mart. They are always quick to open registers when the lines start forming. Most of the time they have plenty of registers open so you never have to wait.

What I especially like is the fact they keep everything well stocked. You never see an empty shelf at Crest.

Crest and the Target on Rockwell is where I spend my money these days. Crest for the Food and Target for the non-food stuff.

I am quit shopping Wal-Mart because most of the products they sell are cheap versions of what you find everywhere else. Almost everything I have purchased there has broken or fell apart.

Say for instance your looking at buying a TV or a computer. You check all the traditional electronic stores and the prices are all with in a $30-$50 margin of each other.

Then you walk in to Wal-Mart and its $150 cheaper than all the other retailers. Your not getting the same product as the traditional stores. What Wal-Mart does is have a special model built for their stores.

They ask the manufacturer to build it cheap so they can sell it cheaper. What you get is a TV that lacks certain features of the traditional store models or its made from cheaper materials. In fact if you look at some of the GE products. On the product, you will find a label that states made especially for Wal-Mart stores.

When it comes to the stuff I buy, I want it to last. I only shop the places I know sell quality products and have a knowledgeable staff.

In my opinion if you want quality you have to pay a little more and you have to go somewhere where the salesperson knows their product.

You do not go to used car lot to buy a BMW. You go to the BMW dealership where you know the staff is going to know all there is to know about a BMW. Even if you are buying it used you want to know everything about it from someone that sells them all day long.

Well! I still like Wal-Mart for lots of things like computer purchases (Usually buy my computers from Sams Though.) Wal-Mart has lots of stuff. Really tho, we do not go to Wal-Mart that much---they are always so busy.

But as it so happened, just yesterday, we went to town on our usual weekend outing; went to that garage sale at the fairgrounds that I will just say in passing that this is the last year I will go to it.

Might be a bit off topic for a few paragraphs here, but surely it is not that far off topic that it will hijack the thread or offend anyone---anyone offended by it yet? On topic picks up just three short paragraphs below, so bear with me here.

After the garage sale, dropped by the Boat Show, ans since it appeared the ticket office was abandoned, headed right past it to the door---Wow! What a peck that lady in the ticket booth could do on the door as she hailed us to buy the tickets (Hey, we had just came from in my opinion the biggest rip-off place in the world there at that fairgrounds, and we were not interested at all in buying a boat.) LOL

I showed my shock and dismay as the lady broke "our" tickets off the roll and proceeded to "shake us down."

I did not take it, and we strolled on off.

OK, BACK ON TOPIC

We usually shop the Crest in MWC, but yesterday, we decided to eat at the Hometown Buffet, mmmmmmm good!, so that put us in the vicinity of Wal-Mart on I-240. We did not need many groceries, so we decided instead of going over to Crest we would buy our groceries at Wal-Mart and go home.

First thing I noticed was the price of Orange Juice---same brand, but it was very near a dollar higher than at Crest. Milk, about 70 cents higher at Wal-Mart---yes, the price fluctuates at Crest, so maybe it was higher at Crest Yesterday too, but I will never know since we went to Wal-Mart instead of Crest.

Bananas were same price as at Crest---and one gets bad quality bananas all the time, so cannot compare quality.

All in all, we talked about the difference in prices on the way home, and I even mentioned to my wife that I was going to post about it; LOL and here is a thread to put it into. But really, the milk and OJ were determining factors in my nondesire to go back to Wal-Mart for groceries.

Pete
LOL They are building two Super Wal-Marts in the Midwest City/ Del City area---one of them will be right across the street from our "home"---The Home Depot. LOL

End of Transmission

My wife and I stopped shopping at WalMart for over one year now. All because of the same reasons as stated above. We may spend a little more time and money shopping at other places, but just like in any business cheap isn't always best. The service, cleanliness, and clientèle at Target is hands down better than Wal-Mart.

Now, I do not want anyone to think I will not shop at Wal-Mart; I will still shop at Wal-mart. I hope I did not give the impression that i would not. I was just discussing the price of a few select items.

I will keep shppoing at walmart, never had any problems out of walmart, but out of the two we have in norman, they are clean and good run stores. I think alot of the problems lay within the management, if there is something wrong with the store dirty, trashy bad cashier's, report it. If the management doesn't know its bad he can't fix it. I never have liked target, and won't shop target unless I really really have to. I can't find what I want, and I don't like the mood in target. I will stay and keep shopping at walmart, if its cheaper and saves me money buying a tv that 150 dollars less than say best buy, I am going to save the 150 dollars, the computer I have right now is from walmart and is doing me just fine. I have never had any problems with walmart products.

I shop at Wal Mart because its close and they have everything I need in one store. I couldn't care less about who else shops there and whether or not they are up to my lofty standards as a human being. Its a store, not a lifelong commitment. I'm in, I'm out with what I need, end of story. With that said, I'm no cheerleader for Wal Mart either. In fact if something else comes along thats closer and has a similar inventory I'll be there.

I am not a fan of Wal-Mart, especially after visiting the MWC & Belle isle stores. However, I like the store at Penn & Memorial! I've never encountered any rude employees and the store seems well-kempt and clean. (Of course, the parking lot sucks, but that's due mostly to ignorant people who litter.) Everyone I've ever dealt with there is friendly and helpful.

I would never make a major purchase at Wal-Mart (like a computer), because the "affordability" of some products does mean you're getting lower quality items. However, their TP & cold medicines are the same as what you get elsewhere and I'm fine with that.

My main problem with Wal-Mart has always been the rudeness of the shoppers. I've never had a problem anywhere else but there. The only time I have came close to an actual fight as an adult was in a Wal-Mart in Texas with this woman who ran in to me with her cart really hard. I don't mind shopping at the Wal-Mart neighborhood market in Edmond for my groceries. However, when it comes to going to Wal-Mart Store or a Supercenter I absolutely will not. I believe with rude and insensitive shoppers that it is easy for that attitude to carry over to the employees.

I've been to the store on Memorial Rd and Penn and had good and bad service. It depends on what cashier you go to. But that's the case everywhere, I suppose. I actually don't see much a difference between the Memorial store and the Belle Isle store. Both are pretty trashy, inside and out. I went into the Memorial Store awhile back to use the bathroom and there were feces smeared all over the mirrors and floor. You tell me that's well-kempt?

The parking lot is the way it is because Wal-Mart has no pride. Target has a cleaning crew vacuuming their parking lot every night. So don't tell me it's only the people's fault. It's the store's fault as well. People litter at Target too. The company just has enough pide in itself to clean up every evening.

Their computers aren't any less quality than anyone elses. They're name brands, like HP. An HP is an HP.

By the way, Wal-Mart is one of the only stores I know where their biggest shop lifters are their employees. I heard that from a friend that works at the Memorial Rd. store out in automotive.

Same here, MadMonk. I really like your last sentence. I like to shop Wal-Mart too, however, there are a few of their stores that I will not shop in.

I really could care less who shops there as well. It's more the fact that I have to walk through heaps of trash to get the the front door, that bothers me. Then, I'm walking around the store, and people leave their trash everwhere. I went to the Memorial store this past weekend, and there was a freakin dirty diaper left on an empty shelf on the toilet paper aisle. How gross.

And as okcgoddess said, I myself have gotten in my fair share of run ins there. People running carts into me and not even saying excuse me, kids running all over the place and their parents not making them mind, etc. I accidently hit one black boy with my cart a few weeks ago, because he was running around like an ADHD maniac. His mom came runing over to me...instead of apologizing, she basically said I needed to get my white.....blanky blanky blanky away from her child.

Patrick, that lady probably was just mad because she didn't have enough money on her access card to cover the 32 inch HDTV flat screen. Plus she was 3 months late on her Cingular bill and Cox cable bill. She might've been from New Orleans.

Not everyone on welfare acts that way. But, I know what you mean. It makes me sick sometimes to see how some of those people act. Truth is you'll always have those select few that take advantage of the system.

Okay, now that's just foul. Apparently, I must hit the place after their "clean up" crew has been there, or something. Hmmm...now that I think of it, I'm usually only shopping there early on Saturday or Sunday mornings. I guess I haven't had the joy of shopping with the "kind" folks you all have encountered there. I think I'll stick with that plan.

I just flat out hate everything about Wal-Mart. I hate everything from the clientele; the products they sell and the way operate.

Every time I leave that place I am ready to go ten rounds with someone.

Ever since I started shopping at Crest and Target I enjoy my shopping trips. Just tonight I went to Target found the items I needed and was in and out in five minutes.

The store was clean inside and out, the other customers where friendly. Me and another girl almost bumped into each other. We both smiled and said excuse me at the same time and went on our separate ways. The cashier was friendly and the manager thanked me for coming in on my way our.

Say there is a novel idea. Make your store a pleasant place to shop. Pay your employees a descent wage. Higher people with average intelligence and make their work environment fun.

Viola! a great store to work in and a great place to shop.

You have a point. It could just be the time of day I'm going. I typically go later at night, after my wife gets off work. We usually go Friday nights which we like because the store isn't very crowded, but this time we happened to go Saturday night because my wife was sick on Friday.

I guess my point was that I've never really had to face the problem at Target or Crest. But, those stores also charge more for their items.

I actually like Target much better than Wal-Mart, but I tend to get a little "lost" in the store on Memorial and Penn. Also, I find I spend more in Target b/c I love their products and have no self-control.

At Wal-Mart, I know I won't go over budget buying extraneous items. Although, apparently, I don't want to buy TP from there anymore after Patrick's little encounter with the diaper. GROSS.

It's been a known fact in the retail business that the largest percentage of shrink comes for the employess of the business. So Wal Mart is not alone on that matter.

Actually it all depends upon the stores you go to. If a manager of a department doesn't care about theft in his own area then it's a problem with the manager himself. I know my father has had to cut 3-4 night stockers loose because they were starting to steal stuff because if other people in the department find out that there's nothing being done about it then their morale will drop.

As far as the rude customers I don't know about you guys but I have never really needed to talk to other customers for the most part and I often find ruder people at sotres like Best Buy / Ultimate Electronics / specialty stores than I do at Wal-mart when other customers start up conversations. I just expect most people in this society to be rude now as that is how they are brought up in most major cities with high populations which is now infiltrating the smaller suburbia areas closer to home. While I don't like their attitudes I will just brush it off most of the time and go on about my business but for employees to be rude is another thing and depending on the type of store it might mean a manager gets some sort of message or perhaps just no tip (restaurants).

Personally I've never really had too many bad experiences with Wal-mart that I haven't had at other places and the new Crest that has opened does have some really incredibly rude management. Basically they spied out all the Wal-marts in the city and if they recognize any single person who worked at Wal-mart (may not even work there anymore) they tell them to leave now without letting them buy anything. I've also heard of people buying food from them that was starting to mold or ended up being bad. I have not been there yet myself yet to form my own opinion but from what I've heard it seems really interesting as I have heard both good and bad about Crest.

Target I find a little expensive for the most part but my roommate is shopping there for his groceries so I tag along sometimes to pick up stuff and there's a very noticable price difference. I know he likes the quiet shopping atmosphere but a busy atmosphere doesn't really bother me most times either, heh.

I do not notice any of the problems youall mention of the Wal-Mart at the Midwest City store; did youall say you all live northwest OKC? Maybe that is the key.

Oh! Did I mention I own a ton of Wal-Mart stock?

That explains the bias. No wonder you want a Wal-Mart next to Bass Pro.

Awww! Ms. Daisy, I was hoping not to have to put you into the barrel, but you done done it badmouthing my Wal-Mart. LOL

Sometimes it might be the customer and not the store; have you read the e-mail that is going around about the guy who was being placed in a nursing home, and even before he saw his room, he knew he would love it because he made up his mind he would love it.

His philosophy was that he could either love life or hate it, so he chose to love life.

Fit anyone here?
