Bring Back Mike.....never gonna happen. Mike is a great coach and this year he is finally showing his potential as a head coach. Arizona has shown steady improvement since he took over the hc's job, and are on target to go to their first bowl game in over a decade. He will never be an assistant coach again. That said, I always thought it was a mistake to let him go in the first place. It would be great to have the Stoops brothers on the sidelines together.
"Fire Bob"......... Are you crazy????? And just who do you suggest would be a better head coach than Bob? Check his stats.
I know the loss to Texas stunk, but whats the shame in occasionally losing to one of the best teams in the country. Fire a coach because his team lost to the #1 team in the country??????? kinda tuff dontcha think?
OU didn't play that bad, in fact I thought it was a good game (despite the outcome). And I think the rest of the country and the poll voters agree with me, otherwise why did OU only fall three spots in the AP? ..... Because they saw OU as a great team play a great game and lost to a great opponent. In a rivalry game, against a heisman trophy candidate (although Sam was better), with some bad calls (not the reason we lost), and missing one of their best players.
OU made some bad decisions on play calls, (ie...fake punt from 15 yards behind the line of scrimmage on 4th and 6), the special teams are very very unspecial, and Texas played a great game plan. So we lost. I was disappointed in the time it took to run our "no-huddle" offense as well; as TaoMaas mentioned. That needs to be addressed in this weeks meetings, and Im sure it will be.
If we absolutely positively have to have a scape-goat to fire....maybe we should look at the special teams coach (Chris Wilson). How many times have teams run kickoffs and punts back for touchdowns this season against OU? I've lost count already. Take away that 96 yard Texas return, and OUs right back in the game.
Not to mention the OU interception in the endzone that was never called. (sorry I had to get that in somewhere...sour grapes I know)
OU can still win the BigXII south, the Big XII title, and a national championship this year. And it doesn't take a whole lot of imagination to figure out how. It would help tremendously if Mizzou beats Texas this weekend however. So we'll need to win out...maybe playing highly ranked OSU and TT teams, then beat Mizzou in KC. And we'll need help from Mizzou, Texas Tech, and OSU. + a loss by PSU and/or Alabama.
I for one am not ready to call the season a failure. Boomer Sooner
