Default Re: Obama and Taxes

You know, I get really tired of our presidential debates, mostly because news people are idiots. News flash, the executive branch does not legislate. A president cannot raise taxes. He can vote to go along with a tax rate or veto it, and that's about it. Maybe the talking heads mean to say this, but it isn't what they are saying.

Time and again our populace fails to discuss the things that presidents actually do. The president is the chief of state, so foreign policy is a big deal with a president. The president appoints people to the Supreme Court. The president is the head of the Executive Branch, so if you have a beef with various law enforcement agencies not enforcing borders, focusing on the wrong things, etc., then you should be asking how the presidential candidate will direct his Executives in these regards. The president appoints people to tons of positions, including the Fed, so monetary policy is a legitimate question.

And yet every four years we go on and on asking the president if he "is going to raise taxes." Really? Or we ask nonsensical questions about the greater economy, as though the president is somehow in control of all private corporations everywhere.

I'm not sure what's sadder, the fact that our media is full of a bunch of brain-dead dolts or the fact that the viewing public doesn't demand more.
